Tiny Luxuries
Tiny Luxuries
Struggling to know what it is you love — what it is that makes you come alive?
This isn’t your fault, dear joy-seeker.
We live in a society, a world, a system that too often buries the things that bring us the most joy. And calls them unnecessary, frivolous — and tosses them away.
We live in a space that only values productivity.
Your tiny luxuries might not be profitable. They might not be productive.
But they sure as hell usher in joy.
Usher in freedom.
Usher in lightness.
And we, here, barter in the currency of luxuries, joys, and playfulness.
So.
Sit still. Breathe deep.
What kind of magic did you once believe in?
Fairies? Santa? Elves? Unicorns?
Draw on that past childlike wonder.
Let the tiniest inkling of belief find its way back inside you.
Let the hope that it could be true begin to buzz —
in your toes,
in your fingertips.
Let it spread slowly…
Sit with that suspended belief and disbelief.
Sit with the hope that another world could be possible.
Sit with the image of the magical world you once held dear.
Let it expand in you.
Ask your younger self:
Where does joy live?
Where does joy reside?
And dear joy-seeker…
It’s okay if this takes many tries.
We have forgotten ourselves.
It will take time to remember.
That younger part deep within you knows.
Ask them.
They will tell you — when they are ready.
