Trusted Therapists for Postpartum Mental Health:
Columbus/OH: Wild Hope Therapy
Seattle, WA: Steph Tigert: She offers compassionate, insightful, deeply empathetic care.
Emma Summers: Thoughtful, caring service.
Laurie Ganberg: Gentle, inclusive care.
Good Inside:
Good Inside: This one has a category of its own. Ive been so grateful for the parenting wisdom found here. Whether you are just starting the parenting journey or several years in, this community will help you feel less alone and is a wealth of wisdom for the trickiest of parenting moments.
Helpful Parenting Books:
Beyond Behaviors by Mona Delahooke - this book is SO GOOD. It does a deep dive on other ways of addressing problem behaviors and neuroscience behind WHY.
Good Inside: So so good. Again, can’t say enough good things about this.
Prenatal Yoga:
Columbus: Give Yoga: They offer a 6 week series. Sounds divine.
Seattle: Aditi: This studio is beautiful, inviting and gentle. I loved my experience in a prenatal class there.
Jodi Boone: I cannot say enough good things about Jodi. She is compassionate, gentle, inviting and will offer the perfect place to start your prenatal yoga journey. Do yourself a favor and check out one of her classes in Seattle!
Body - Exercise & Healing For PostPartum Moms
Body Love - “Let us Guide You.
#1 Safe Prenatal & Postnatal Workouts”
MammaStrong - “Motherhood is complicated.
Your workouts shouldn't be.”
I tried both of these. I loved them both for different reasons. MammaStrong is quirky and less expensive, Body Love is more refined and a bit more pricey.
Helpful Books For New Moms:
Like a Mother: Such a beautiful book: part memoir, part detailed investigation of various aspects of pregnancy/body/etc.
Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth: This is one for those of you who might be interested in a low-intervention birth or home birth.
The Fourth Trimester: Great read.
Postnatal Depletion Cure: On my list.
A Body Full of Stars: Also on my list.
Enough About the Baby: Can’t wait to read.
Pelvic Floor Therapists:
Pelvic Floor and More: Sarah is compassionate, kind, gentle and joyful - she made this uncomfortable experience more bearable. Go see her if you are in the Columbus area! This is not “extra,” mama. Your body just went through a huge ordeal - take care of that beautiful bod.
Doulas:
The Ohio Doula: I had such a beautiful experience working with them. I highly recommend.
Ali Romot: She offers such beautiful energy and also teaches hypnotic birthing classes. I loved that preparation for my second birth. Sounds woo-woo, but oh so beautiful and empowering!
This resource list will continue to grow, so check back for new resources and ideas, mama.
Products for Overstimulated Parents
Loop Earplugs: Noise reducing, SO HELPFUL for overstimulated parents.
Self Care Cookbook: Sweet, simple, playful and inviting.
Weighted Blanket: This blanket is DIVINE. It was so soothing to me when I was going through my period of intense insomnia. Yes, it’s expensive (I got it for my birthday :) But SO WORTH IT.
Insight Timer: I recommend this to all my patients. It has a wealth of free resources and free guided meditations. For all your free time :)
Postpartum Products & Tools That Actually Help
Pack n Play Blackout Cover: I am a firm believer in using a crib cover (below) - it has made my babies feel cozy, contained and… I know they can’t climb out and are literally contained :) This blackout cover is great for travel and we have LOVED it. Zip up AND you don’t need to worry about what curtains are at the Airbnb.
Crib Tent: See above. Brilliant and amazing. Highly recommend some kind of crib tent. This one is very simple, I’m not sure how I feel about the “auto lock” ones but have at it!
Newborn Sleep Coaches and Sleep Support
Ohio Sleep Coach: Little Sleepers Big Dreamers. I have not worked with Kristi personally, but I have met with her and heard about her beautiful work. She is a great starting point as you look for a sleep coach!
Julie Kennedy Consulting: Julie is knowledgeable, kind, compassionate and she was a wonderful practitioner to work with! I m so grateful for her help with my eldest. We began working with her when my eldest was 10-months. Julie is based in WA state, but works virtually all over the states. I have recommended her to numerous family and friends!
Overnight Doulas For Sleep Support:
The Ohio Doula: Mama, if you have a tough baby and you are really struggling, it’s ok to ask for help! There are plenty of overnight doulas (“Night Nanny!) who can give you some reprieve. You aren’t failing, you are showing up with strength and integrity and acknowledging when you need a hand. I had two beautiful doulas through Ohio Doulas with me through my pregnancy and birth experience. I did not utilize this service they provide, but wish I had!
Awaiting Miracles: No personal experience here, but it looks like they provide beautiful services.
